The Equine Clinic is proud to annouce that our new MIE bone scanner is installed and is now fully operational.
The Ballarat Veterinary Practice was the first Equine Clinic in Victoria to install a bone scanner in 1999. Since that time we have had 3 individual bone scanners the most recent one a Toshiba unit that was one of the best units in its day for human sports medicine work. As stress fractures are one of the most common injuries diagnosed with scintigraphy, this machine has been excellent for our horse work here at the clinic.
The increased workload that current bone scanner has been experiencing along with our desire to have available to our clients the best diagnostic equipment has resulted in the purchase of the new MIE Scanner. The new camera is specifically built for horses and is not a machine used for people that has been adapted for horses. The new facility will house the camera and have three purpose built boxes for horses sent to the clinic for a bone scan. The new machine has motion correction allowing even more accurate scans to be performed in a shorter period of time.
